The Tweenage Rugrats In: "Hey, Rugrats!"

By Dwayne Anderson

It was Thursday afternoon. The rugrats are in a city in the Pacific Northwest; they were there because Stu was attending an inventors' convention there, and he invited the Rugrats to come along. Chazz and Kira were also on special assignment there, as they planned to open their second Java Lava store in that city.

The Rugrats were taking a walk through the city park one day. It was a beautiful spring day. The flowers were growing, birds chirped their songs, and kids went down to the pond to feed the ducks.

"What a beautiful sunny spring day" said Lil.

"The flowers look so beautiful" said Angelica, "of course, I'm much more beautiful."

"Don't brag Angelica" said Kimi. "I'm beautiful too!"

"Am not!" said Angelica.

"Am too!" said Kimi.

"Don't forget me!" said Lil. "I'm pretty too!"

As they continued walking down the sidewalk, they came across two boys. One was black like Susie with black hair. The other boy had a head shaped like a football. Between his parted blonde hair on a bald spot on his head, was a tiny blue cap.

"I haven't see you around here" said the football headed boy.

"Who are you?" asked Tommy.

"I'm Arnold" said the boy. "And this is my friend Gerald."

"Nice to meet you" said the black boy.

"Pleased to meet you" said Tommy. "I'm Tommy. This is Dil, Chuckie, Kimi, Susie, Angelica, Phil, and Lil."

"Glad to know you" said Arnold.

"Where do you live Arnold?" asked Chuckie.

"At a boarding house with its owners, my grandma and grandpa" said Arnold.

"What about your parents?" asked Kimi.

"My parents went somewhere on a plane trip when I was a baby. They were never seen again."

"Oh that's too bad" said Chuckie. "I lost my mother when I was a baby."

"I lost my father when I was little too" said Kimi.

"Why don't you guys come over for dinner?" asked Arnold. "I'm sure my grandparents would be happy to see you."

"Great!" said Tommy, "we're there!"

The rugrats went back to the hotel where they'red staying to ask their parents if they could have dinner at their new friend's house. Their parents said yes!

A little later at suppertime, the rugrats sat around a small wooden table with Arnold and his grandparents.

"Did I ever tell you about the time me and my grandparents entered a relay race on Parents Day?" asked Arnold.

"Of course not" said Angelica.

"That was the time where the father of another friend of mine named Helga, called me Orphan Boy. That was when I asked my grandpa where my parents were."

"It's a sad story" said grandpa. "My son was on a safari in Africa when he met the woman who later married him. Years later when Arnold was a baby, they went on a rescue mission by plane, and were never seen again."

"That's so sad" said Lil.

"We all used to be babies too" said Chuckie. "Me and my step-sister lost one of our parents when we were really little. I lost my mother while Kimi lost her father."

Just then, there was a knock on the door. When Arnold went to answer it, he saw in the doorway, a girl in a white and pink outfit, with blonde hair pointing in two directions.

"Helga, what are you doing here?" asked Arnold.

"I came to see you" said Helga. "I also heard you were having some new friends over for dinner."

"I am" said Arnold.

Helga came into the apartment, closing the door behind her. She went into the kitchen to meet the others.

"This is Tommy, Chuckie, Kimi, Phil, Lil, Susie, Angelica, and Dil" said Arnold.

"Nice to meet you all" said Helga. "I'm Arnold's secret admirer."

"What was that Helga?" asked Arnold.

"Uh, nothing" said Helga.

"Ok" said Arnold.

A little later, while the rugrats helped Arnold and his grandparents with the dishes, Helga went into the living room and took out a locket.

Opening it revealed a picture of Arnold.

"Why me?" she asked. "Why can't I just tell Arnold what I feel about him?"

"What are you talking about?" asked Angelica as she entered.

"Can you keep a secret?" asked Helga, "I'm in love with Arnold, but I'm too shy to tell him."

"I can understand that" said Angelica. "Sure, I'll keep it a secret."

Meanwhile, back in the kitchen, while the rest did the dishes, Arnold asked them, "what do you guys like to do for fun?"

"Well we mostly hang out" said Phil. "Tomorrow, we're going to another one of Emica's concerts."

"Cool!" said Arnold. "Can I go too?"

"Sure!" said Tommy. "The more, the merrier!"

"Grandma, grandpa, can I go to the concert tomorrow with my new friends?" asked Arnold.

"Of course!" said grandma.

"Yay!" cheered Arnold.

Meanwhile, back in the living room, Helga had heard everything.

"Tomorrow, I'm going to do it!" she said. "I'm going to tell Arnold how I feel about him tomorrow at the concert!"
