The Tweenage Rugrats In:
"Let's Box"

By Dwayne Anderson

It was Monday in mid September. Each of the students at Jim Jr. Jr. High School were in the auditorium. Principal Jim Skinner had an important announcement to make.

"Hello students. I have a special announcement to make. Miss Blover, our school's gym teacher has retired recently. In her place, we are having someone else take her place. He's a former heavyweight boxer who recently retired."

Excited murmers were heard throughout the rooms.

"Please give a round of applause to Mr. Perry Smith!"

Everyone appluaded as a bald man dressed in a red tank top, brown pants, and black shoes came onto the stage.

"Hello" he said. "I'm former heavyweight boxer, Perry 'Knucklehead' Smith. I recently retired, undefeated with fifty wins, most of which were knockouts. I will be your new gym teacher."

Everyone applauded again.

A little later, Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, and Kimi were in the gym with their class. Mr. Smith came to meet them.

"Alright" he said. "We'll start by playing a little dodgeball. For practise, throw your balls at me and see if you can knock me down. Begin!"

Everyone threw their balls at Mr. Smith. He dodged every single one.

"Missed me!" he said. "Too slow! See what years of training in boxing did for me!"

Kimi threw her last ball. To everyone's shock, it hit Mr. Smith in the torso, knocking him down flat.

Everyone crowded around him.

"Who threw that ball?" asked Smith.

"Uh, I did" said Kimi. "I'm really sorry."

"I want to see you after class young lady."

Kimi gulped.

Mr. Smith stood. "Alright, now let's play a real game of dodgeball! The boys will play against the girls. Stand on different sides and begin!"

Everyone went to their positions and began to throw balls.

Within five minutes the game was over. The girls had won. But the only person standing now was Kimi.

"Whoa" Smith thought to himself. "That girl has potential!"

After class, Kimi went to see Smith.

"You display a lot of potential" he said.

"Uh, thanks, I guess" said Kimi.

"In my entire career as a boxer, I was knocked out only once. And that wasn't even in the ring. The person who knocked me out was you."

"I'm really sorry Mr. Smith" said Kimi.

"Kimi, you're so strong and great with sports! How would you like to be trained to be a champ at junior boxing?"

"Well, I am already the state's junior wrestling champion. Ok, teach me!"

"Great!" said Smith. He gave Kimi a small slip of paper. "Here's my address. Meet me here every day after school."

"Yes sir" said Kimi as she excitedly took the paper. "I'll be there!"

As she left the gym, she said to herself, "wait till my friends hear about this!"

Later, after school, our favorite Rugrats left Jim Junior High School and climbed onto the bus.

As they sat down, Kimi said "hey guys, guess what!"

"What?" asked Chuckie.

"I'm going to be a junior boxer! Knucklehead Smith is going to train me!"

"That's nice" said Tommy. "We know for sure that you'll knock'em dead, or at least unconcious!"

"I'm supposed to meet Perry at his house after school" said Kimi. "I got his address. I'll be taking my bike."

"We'll all be going to the swimming pool after school" said Lil. "Too bad you won't be able to join us."

"That's ok guys" said Kimi. "I can go some other day."

When she got home, Kimi got her bike and rode down to Perry's house.

Later, she arrived at a red brick house with a red roof. Working in the garage was Perry.

"Come on in Kimi" he said. "Park your bike in here."

Kimi did as she was told. She took off her knee pads, elbow pads, and helmet.

"Now, first I will tell you about Junior Boxing. It's just like professtional boxing, only with kids as the participants."

"When will we start?"

"Right away" said Perry. He gave her some boxing gloves.

"Here, put these on."

Kimi put on the gloves.

"Now, we'll start with the punching bag."

Meanwhile, the others were at the swimming pool. It was the same pool where they had tried to flush the big potty (In the episode "The Flush").

Lil dove off the low dive board and into the water. Her friends clapped.

"Now it's my turn!" said Phil as he climbed out of the water and climbed up to the diving board.

Back at Perry's house, Kimi was still punching away at the punching bag.

"See if you can punch faster now" said Perry.

Kimi increased the speed of her jabs.

Just then, Perry's wife Stacy, a young blonde woman with green eyes came into the garage with some lemonade.

"Here's lemonade for you when you need to cool off" she said.

"Thanks dear" said Perry.

Stacy left the garage.

"Ok now" said Perry. "Now, let's practise on another target."

He stood before Kimi. "Practise on me."

Kimi began to jab Perry.

"Good!" he said. "Keep it up Kimi!"

Back at the pool, the other Rugrats were playing volleyball.

Over the intercom, came this announcement.

"Attention everyone. The pool will be closing at 5:30 P.M. When you hear the bell, it will be time to get out. And to the person who took the `L' from the `Swimming Pool' sign, ha ha, we are all very amused."

"Dil, did you do that?" asked Tommy.

"With help from Phil" said Dil. He and Phil snickered and gave each other a high five.

Two hours later, back at Perry's house, Kimi was now lifting ten pound weights, even despite the fact that she could bench higher amounts of weight.

"Great work Kimi!" said Perry. "Let's call it a day. See you again tomorrow."

As Kimi put on her bike gear, Perry said, "I got an idea! Let's do what professional boxers do!"

Later, the other Rugrats had just arrived home when they saw a strange sight.

Perry was riding Kimi's bike, while Kimi was running behind him.

When they arrived at the Finster's house, Perry climbed off the bike.

"Great job on the first day of training!" he said to Kimi. "As for me, I'll just run home."

And that's what he did.
