2003 Nickelodeon
Kids' Choice Awards

The 16th annual Kids' Choice Awards was seen live (except in western US) on Nickelodeon, on Saturday, 4/12/2003 at 8PM ET to 9:30PM ET. This year's edition originated again from The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA. The theme of this year's edition is video-game based, where the guests and the audience will appear as if they're part of a giant, live video game. The celebs appearing on the show also "play" some of the video games featured on the show. Also, another record-breaking stunt involving slime will be held this year, featuring Tony Hawk.

As per usual, Rosie O'Donnell will host this year -- her 7th time in a row as host. Though this time, she's practically representing herself -- she now has no TV show, no magazine, and no other TV or movie appearances.

Where Rugrats is concerned, they are nominated, as usual, in the "Favorite Cartoon" category, along, as usual, with The Simpsons. However, this year, it is The Simpsons being the defending champions, rather than Rugrats. As usual, another Nicktoon (SpongeBob) and another non-Nicktoon (Kim Possible) are also nominated.

The winner, however, is SpongeBob.

Other awards worth noting this year (winners in red):

Favorite Movie

Austin Powers: Goldmember
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Ice Age
Spiderman

Favorite Voice From An Animated Movie

Matt Damon (Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron)
Dennis Leary (Ice Age)
Ray Romano (Ice Age)
Adam Sandler (Eight Crazy Nights)

Favorite Sports Team (What? No Bucs or hockey teams?)

Anaheim Angels
Los Angeles Lakers
Miami Dolphins
New York Yankees

Favorite Book(s)

Captain Underpants (series)
Double Fudge
Harry Potter (series)
A Series of Unfortunate Events (series)

Also, beginning this year, there's a special site for the press (open to the public) at http://www.nickkcapress.com/ .

The Aussie Version

As usual, Nick Australia presented their own version of the KCAs, on Saturday 5/10/2003. As with the US version, the Rugrats were also shut out of the Aussie awards as well.

Here are the nominees and the winners of the categories that the Rugrats were involved with:

TV Show
The Amanda Show
Home & Away
Rugrats
The Simpsons

Animal Star
Eddie McDowd
Bootsy
Spike
Salem

And in the Book category -- once again, all 4 (for now) Harry Potter books were the nominees. This year, the prize went to Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (don't know who last year's winner was, as they didn't announce last year's winners).
