2000 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards

The 2000 Kids' Choice Awards originated from the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, live on Nick US, Saturday, 4/15/2000 at 8PM ET. As per usual, Rosie O'Donnell was host. She was also slimed as the 2000 "Kids' Choice Hall Of Fame" winner.

Rugrats Once again, as per usual, Rugrats took home the "Favorite Cartoon" award, much to the utter disappointment of Pokemon fans, as that show was, evidently, much more popular than Rugrats in the past year.
Here's the look at the other nominees, and what, in my opinion, affected their outcome:

Pokemon Many people thought that Pokemon would be a shoe-in at the KCAs; ask any kid, and they'll tell you the names of all 151 Pokemon, or show you their Pokemon card collection. Go to any store, and you'll see Pokemon merchandise all over the place. With a blitz like this, it would've been impossible for Pokemon NOT to win... but don't forget: this is Nickelodeon, and Nicktoons, more specifically, Rugrats, always win. It's things like this that has put Pokemon fans in a state of awe, as 1999 was the Year of the Pokemon. However, some believe that the Pokemon anime isn't as popular as the cards or video games themselves. Are the awards rigged? Or are the Rugrats actually more popular than the animated Pokemon? You be the judge.

The Simpsons In 1991, shortly before Nicktoons began, The Simpsons were the last non-Nicktoon winners of the "Favorite Cartoon" award, but after August 11, 1991, they were always the "also-ran" nominee, nominated each year, but never winning.

CatDog CatDog -- why CatDog? This series is, in my opinion, one of the least-interesting Nicktoons, in both terms of ratings and watchability. Hey Arnold, The Wild Thornberrys, even Rocket Power deserved this nomination more than CatDog.

At the awards ceremony, the Fave Toon award was presented this time around by Nicktoons; specifically, SpongeBob SquarePants and his sidekick, Patrick the Squid. The winners of all categories were displayed on a "Vote-A-Matic" machine, where the winner's name is displayed in laser lights. After the winner was announced, we go to Angelica, where she's at the set of her Rugrats In Paris film.

International Awards

As with every year, the international presentation of the awards are the same as the US presentation, though taped for later broadcast, and featuring at least one local category specifically for that broadcast. In Britain, the awards were seen on 4/30/2000 at 5:30PM GMT, and featured a "Favorite Celebrity" category. And in Latin America, instead of showing it live with the US (as they done in 1999), they opted instead to delay the presentation until 5/26/2000 at 7PM CT in Mexico and 7PM Buenos Aires Time in Argentina; a special "Favorite Latin-American" category will be featured. In Australia, the awards were seen on 5/5/2000 at 8PM Sydney time, and includes 6 Australian categories; Tommy took home the Australian prize for "Favourite TV Star" for the 2nd year in a row.
