Rugrats Go Reptar!

Nickelodeon has big plans to release the Rugrats' first 60-minute direct-to-video episode, Runaway Reptar, due out in stores 8/3/99.

The following is a press release from Viacom, detailing the plans to make America more Reptar-aware:

THE RUGRATS GO REPTAR!

Nickelodeon Launches Reptar Mania With Extensive Rugrats Event To Support Billion-Dollar Franchise

New York, NY, June 8, 1999 - Nickelodeon's Rugrats Go Reptar! with a major Rugrats event launching in third quarter 1999. This billion-dollar franchise celebrates the Rugrats' love of Reptar, their reptilian hero, with a direct-to-video release and a major retail back-to-school campaign.

Following the #1 selling home video release of "The Rugrats Movie", Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Video will launch the direct-to-video release of "Runaway Reptar" on August 3, anchoring the Rugrats Go Reptar! campaign.

In addition, Kid Rhino will launch the audio adventure "In Search of Mighty Reptar" on July 20, in the first ever Rugrats audio release.

(Not so, as there was the soundtracks to Rugrats -- A Live Adventure and The Rugrats Movie. -- SM)

To add to the excitement, Nickelodeon will feature an on-air Rugrats Go Reptar! sweepstakes the week of August 2. During the sweepstakes, kids will be asked to look out for an animated Dil riding in a Reptarmobile chasing after Reptar which will be superimposed over Nicktoons each day between 2 pm and 5 pm (ET). To enter, kids can send in a postcard with the name of one show they saw this and mail it in to win various Rugrats / Reptar prizes. Additional promotional support will come from Post Kids Cereal, which will introduce "Rugrats Reptar Crunch Cereal" for a limited time, from August 1 - September 15.

Nickelodeon will support Rugrats Go Reptar! across all lines of consumer products, including a Reptar Cereal - themed skill game from Mattel; new Rugrats - and Reptar-themed software from The Learning Company and THQ; Reptar-themed story, coloring and activity books from Simon & Schuster and Landoll's; back-to-school supplies from Sanford and Stuart Hall; and new Rugrats and Reptar collectibles from Arco. In addition, Home Shopping Network is developing a Reptar-themed special to air in August.

Nickelodeon Online and Nickelodeon Magazine will also support Rugrats Go Reptar! with new content including the Inside the Reptarmobile game on nick.com. Rugrats Comic Adventures (a dedicated collectible magazine that has the highest comic book subscription base for kids at 150,000) will also support Rugrats Go Reptar! events.
